Effect of FRUCTOSE on HEALTH:
STUDY:

The authors sought to determine the effects of fructose on lipids in both healthy and unhealthy individuals.
– 59 trials including 1,068 participants were assessed.
– Healthy and unhealthy individuals from isocaloric feeding trials were assessed separately to avoid confounding variables.
Based on the data analyzed, there is moderate evidence that isocaloric fructose consumption does not harm lipid targets while overconsumption may. Negative effects of excess fructose could be due to the extra calories themselves and not the fructose
Limitations:
– Short trial duration, unrealistically high fructose dose, and the comparison of dissimilar study participants
